About the Transportation Library's Collection

The Transportation Library's collection contains over 450,000 items, including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, annual reports, technical reports, environmental impact statements and over 3,300 periodicals. The formats collected encompass print, microforms, cd-roms, cassettes and videorecordings.

The Library's primary collection is in transportation, emphasizing its socioeconomic aspects, particularly: management, operations, finance, planning, regulation and safety. Both international and U.S. publications are collected.

The Transportation Library's secondary collection, supporting law enforcement research, emphasizes police administration and traffic law enforcement. This collection consists of over 10,000 titles and 135 periodicals; it is used by law enforcement personnel throughout the country.

One of the largest collections of environmental impact statements extant constitutes the Transportation Library's tertiary collection. The size, scope and availability of this collection supports environmental research throughout the country and the world.
